Certificate Course Public Health Management (CCPHM)

One key issue identified in Odisha’s health system is the gap in public health management skills among medical staff, particularly Chief District Medical Officers (CDMOs). While CDMOs are well-trained in clinical management, they often lack essential competencies in strategic management, planning, supervision, and resource allocation—skills critical for effectively overseeing health programs. This gap can lead to inefficient decision-making and mismanagement, ultimately hindering the state’s public health goals.
To address this challenge, the Indian Institute of Public Health (IIPH) Bhubaneswar, in collaboration with the Government of Odisha, has developed a short course titled Certificate Course in Public Health Management (CCPHM). This course is specifically designed for senior doctors, particularly those progressing to the role of CDMO. The CCPHM aims to equip CDMOs with the necessary skills in health policy execution, program monitoring, workforce supervision, and public health strategy development. Upon request, this course was also extended for officers of the Government of Madhya Pradesh.
By focusing on the management competencies required for effective public health leadership, the CCPHM will strengthen the state’s ability to tackle emerging public health challenges, improve healthcare delivery, and enhance the effectiveness of health programs. This course will help enhance the leadership and management capacity of CDMOs, ensuring better stewardship of health resources and improved health outcomes across Odisha.
