A Brief Biography:

After his training at medical school (Calcutta National Medical College, Calcutta University) Dr Ambarish Dutta started his career as a public health professional in National Leprosy Elimination Programme, in 1994. After his stint with the leprosy programme he moved to provide technical assistance to the Indian TB control programme at the state and at the federal level on behalf of the World Health Organization India office.

Almost after spending a decade and a half in disease control programmes, he moved back to academia to complete Masters in Public Health from University of Leeds, UK and then PhD in epidemiology and public health from Exeter Medical School, University of Exeter, UK – the topic of doctoral thesis being “Epidemiological study of longevity and diseases in later life”. He is currently working as an Professor of epidemiology at the Indian Institute of Public Health, Bhubaneswar, an institute of the Public Health Foundation of India.

He teaches epidemiology and biostatistics to post-graduate students and also engage actively with other research institutes and medical education boards to conduct capacity building workshops in the domain of epidemiology, biostatistics and research methodology.

He extensively uses his expertise in epidemiological study designs and various principles of biostatistics to examine the association between various determinants of ageing and age-related diseases in later life. As a public health epidemiologist, he also takes avid interest in conducting implementation research and impact evaluation in the field of communicable diseases, mainly Malaria and Tuberculosis, and other related health programmes.
